What is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos?
The future of Volkswagen vehicles is going to focus on electrified platforms. However, that doesn’t mean that the automaker is don’t with gasoline-powered engines. To wit, VW is introducing a new compact crossover SUV that will use a tried-and-true powertrain, but it will also have some special features to offer to set it apart from the rest of its densely packed industry segment. So, what is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos? As we stated before, the upcoming Taos is a compact version of the popular crossover SUV class, which will be slimmer than the existing Tiguan model. It will still be a little while before the 2022 Taos is available at the Schworer VW showroom. Let’s take a look at what we know right now.

“Taos is our fifth new addition to the Volkswagen SUV family in just four years, and we’re thrilled to keep finding new ways to meet the needs of American families,” Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, said in a press release. “Taos will bookend our compact SUV offering, giving buyers all the style, technology, and drivability that Volkswagen is known for at an even more affordable price.”
Performance Specs
Schworer Volkswagen customers may be very familiar with the powertrain used by the 2022 VW Taos. The EA211 power plant that will be under the hood of the new Taos consists of a turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine – just like what is currently powering the VW Jetta. Buyers will get an eight-speed automatic transmission on version of the Taos with front-wheel-drive and model employing the 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system will get a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Interior Space
According to VW, the 2022 Taos will occupy the center of the entry-level crossover SUV range available to potential buyers. It will offer two rows of seats that can comfortably hold as many as five passengers. The driver and front passenger sitting in the front seat of the 2022 Taos will have more than 40 inches of legroom, leaving rear seat riders with 37.9 inches. Future owners of the 2022 VW Taos will have 28.1 cubic-feet of cargo volume in the rear of the vehicle when people are using the back seat and up to 66.3 when the interior is properly configured.
