Why Is Tire Rotation Important?

Row of tires

You might know what oil changes and brake checks entail, but what does rotating your tires do? Why rotate tires at all? Your tires go through a great deal of wear and tear, but some go through more than others. When you rotate your tires, you swap the positions of each tire to a new position on the car. This allows you to distribute the wear more evenly, so your tires last longer. Find out how often to rotate your tires, and visit us in Lincoln for more service tips and tricks!

How Does Drivetrain Affect Tire Rotation?

Whether you have a front-wheel drive sedan or an all-wheel drive SUV, your drivetrain has a big impact on your tire wear levels on the Omaha roads. Why? Let’s find out:

  • Front-wheel drive vehicle: In a front-wheel drive model, all of the engine power is sent to the front wheels. This means the front tires will wear out faster than the rear tires.
  • Rear-wheel drive vehicle: Rear-wheel drive routes the engine power to the rear tires, but the front tires are still responsible for a great deal of the braking and steering. This means both sets wear a little more evenly, but the rear tires will still wear out faster.
  • All-wheel drive vehicle: All-wheel drive models send engine power to the wheel that needs it, which means it’s harder to predict wear patterns. Intelligent all-wheel drive systems can even distribute power to the individual wheel while driving around a curve, so your tire wear might be even harder to anticipate.

How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

For most Kearney and Bellevue drivers, tires should be rotated every six months or every 5,000 miles to 8,000 miles. This can vary from car to car, so check your owner’s manual or talk with our service experts for more information. Our team would be happy to go over the best maintenance schedule for your unique driving needs.

What Happens if I Don’t Rotate My Tires?

It might be difficult to squeeze vehicle maintenance into your busy schedule, but proper service is essential to keep your car in good shape. What are the consequences of skipping your tire rotations?

  • Poor traction and skidding on the roads
  • More rapid deterioration of brake pads
  • Flat tires and blowouts
