Electric Car Charging Options

There are three common levels of charging available for your electric vehicle in the Omaha area: 

1. Level 1 Charging: The most commonly accessible type of charging, Level 1 charging can be found as a standard 120-volt wall outlet in almost any home. While not the most efficient charge, Level 1 charging is easily accessible and efficient for small electric batteries, like the ones found in plug-in hybrid vehicles.
2. Level 2 Charging: Level 2 charging is about twice as fast as Level 1 charging, and can be found either at public electric charging stations or can be professionally installed in your home. 3. Level 3 Charging / DC Fast Charging: For quick charging on the go, Level 3 charging or DC Fast Charging is available at your local public charging stations. The fastest of the three charging levels, these stations will allow you to top up your electric battery’s range while running errands or traveling across the country.

Average Electric Car Charging Time

All electric car charging times will vary based on the vehicle you choose, the battery capacity, and the level of charging you choose. That said, here’s a rough estimate of how long it takes to charge an electric car with the three most common charging stations in Kearney:

• Level 1 Charging: A full day or more to fully recharge a depleted battery.
• Level 2 Charging: Multiple hours, or overnight, to fully recharge a depleted battery.
• Level 3 Charging: Roughly an hour to fully recharge a depleted battery, but can bring several miles of range within ten minutes.

Many EV owners tend to mix their charging levels, using Level 1 or Level 2 charging at home to charge their vehicle overnight or for top-ups during the day. Level 3 charging is great for long road trips or quick re-fuels after a busy day on the town.
