• Compressor – Compresses the refrigerant into a fluid that allows it to flow freely to the condenser. 
• Condenser – Lowers the refrigerant’s temperature and sends it to the expansion valve/orifice tube. 
• Expansion Valve/Orifice Tube – Reverts the refrigerant to its original gaseous state and sends it to the receiver/drier (also known as the accumulator).
• Accumulator – Reduces the moisture content of the refrigerant and delivers it to the evaporator. 
• Evaporator – Removes heat from the air that passes through its core, transferring the heat to the refrigerant. Then, cooled air begins to flow from the evaporator. 

Can I Be Fuel-Efficient While Using My Car’s AC? 

You may be surprised to learn that using your car’s AC is actually more fuel-efficient than rolling down the windows. According to the EPA, when you hit highway speeds with your windows down, this increases your car’s aerodynamic drag and makes your engine work harder–harder than it would if it turned on the AC.
