Where is each model manufactured?
The first Volkswagen manufacturing company is located in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1933, it has grown across Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa. In the North American locations, models being manufactured include the GLI, the Jetta, the Passat, Atlas and the Tiguan. There are more factories in Europe than North America, so more Volkswagen models are manufactured at these locations. Models made in European Volkswagen plants include the Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Jetta.
A special product produced at the Wolfsburg plant
Besides several vehicles being produced at the Wolfsburg plant, a “VW original part” has been produced here since 1973. This part isn’t a tire or an engine component, it’s actually a sausage. The VW currywurst originally started out as a way to feed employees at the Wolfsburg factory but quickly grew in popularity in the cafeterias at other locations. This sausage can be found across several supermarkets and stadiums in Europe. A special section in the Wolfsburg plant is where the Volkswagen currywurst is made by a team of 30 people. While we can’t get this sausage in the U.S., we highly recommend visiting Europe to try it out for yourself.
