A farewell film dedicated to the Volkswagen Beetle
The Volkswagen Beetle has been around for a long time. 70 years to be exact. However, last year Volkswagen announced that they would be ending production of the Volkswagen Beetle. This made the 2019 model the last year that we would get a new Beetle. At the end of 2019, Volkswagen released a tribute to the Beetle as we transitioned into the new year. To bid farewell to the iconic Beetle, Volkswagen created a short film. Keep reading to learn more about this farewell film.
“The Last Mile” animated short film
This animated short film, titled “The Last Mile,” follows the life of a boy with the Volkswagen Beetle always being present. Throughout the video a version of “Let it Be” by the Pro Musica Youth Chorus played as the soundtrack. There are also several tributes to previous campaigns as well as pop culture references. You may notice Kevin Bacon from Footloose and famous visual artist Andy Warhol. The short film ends with the Beetle flying away from the road and turning into a beetle bug.
Senior Vice President of VW brand marketing Saad Chehab said that the Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most recognized vehicles in history. They wanted to send it off with honor. The short film was debuted during “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2020.”
New Logo and Brand Focus
Along with the farewell short film, Volkswagen also gave a sneak peek to their future brand redesign which includes a more modern logo. They also used billboards and digital spaces to show off their future Drive Bigger brand messaging and images of the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport.
