Beloved Community Farmers Markets Reopen in Lincoln, NE

The outbreak of COVID-19 has affected many businesses and events around the country. This includes temporary closings, postponed openings, reduced hours, and restricted business. However, through the tough times, beloved community farmers’ markets are reopening in Lincoln, NE. Two favorite markets are taking precautions to keep shoppers safe while getting local food. Read on to learn about the Sunday Farmers’ Market of College View and Haymarket Farmers’ Market.

Sunday Farmers’ Market of College View

Although opening day had to be delayed, the Sunday Farmers’ Market of College View kicked off on Sunday, May 17th. The market will continue every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 25th. To ensure that every vendor and shopper stays safe from the virus, they have implemented new rules. Some of these rules include wearing a mask, maintaining six feet of distance, no eating food at the market, and placing several hand sanitizing stations throughout the market.

Sunday Farmers’ Market of College View focuses on connecting farmers and their consumers. Community is a strong focus in Lincoln, and they want to continue that. Some programs that participate in the market include SNAP, Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, and Master Gardeners.

Haymarket Farmers’ Market

Despite the delayed opening, the Haymarket Farmers’ Market will be running from May 16th to October 10th. The market runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. whether it’s raining or sunny. As expected, there are new rules to protect everyone from catching or spreading the virus. If you feel sick, do not attend the market. It is advised that all customers shop alone, wear a mask, and avoid gathering in groups.

Haymarket Farmers’ Market prides itself on promoting local businesses and vendors while bringing the community together. Vendor stations include standard market foods like baked goods, homemade drinks, produce, and more. Additionally, they host vendors who sell their crafts including jewelry, henna art, welded iron work, and hygiene products.
